Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 6" x ¾" round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and matcha.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar using a hand mixer until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing until fully incorporated between additions.
  5. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour.
  6. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 33–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake layers cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  8. Prepare the frosting by creaming butter and powdered sugar, then adding vanilla and milk until smooth.
  9. Level the cake layers, spread matcha frosting between them, and stack the layers.
  10. Garnish with fresh kiwi slices and, if desired, a sprinkle of matcha.
