Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Gradually stir in all-purpose flour and salt until a dough forms. The dough should be slightly sticky yet cohesive.
  3. Dust a clean surface with flour and transfer the dough onto it. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Lightly grease a large bowl, place the dough inside and cover. Let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Punch down the risen dough, divide into 8 pieces, and shape into pretzels.
  6. In a large pot, boil 10 cups of water and stir in baking soda. Cook each pretzel in boiling solution for 30 seconds.
  7. Place boiled pretzels on baking sheets, sprinkle with coarse sea salt, and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow pretzels to cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Serve warm for best taste.
