Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Bloom the yeast by combining lukewarm milk, granulated sugar, and instant yeast in a medium bowl. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the dough by whisking all-purpose flour and kosher salt in a large bowl, then adding the bloomed yeast mixture, melted butter, and molasses. Knead until smooth.
  3. Color the dough by dividing it into four portions, adding gel food coloring to each, and kneading until colors are incorporated.
  4. Proof the dough by placing colored balls on a baking sheet, covering with a towel, and letting them rise for 30 to 45 minutes.
  5. Roll and layer the dough by rolling each colored ball into squares, stacking them with alternating colors, and rolling into a log.
  6. Final proof by transferring the log to a greased loaf pan and letting it rise, covered, for another 30 to 45 minutes.
  7. Bake by preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C) and baking the bread for approximately 35 minutes.
  8. Cool and slice the bread for serving after allowing it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
