Description

Korean Cheese Hotteok is a delicious sweet and savory pancake filled with melted cheese, perfect for a snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and milk to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  4. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Flatten each piece into a circle about 4 inches in diameter.
  5. Place a tablespoon of mozzarella cheese (and green onions, if using) in the center of each circle. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal.
  6. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the filled dough seam-side down in the skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve hot, and enjoy the melted cheese inside!

Notes

  • For a sweeter version, add a teaspoon of cinnamon and a tablespoon of brown sugar to the filling.
  • You can also experiment with different cheeses, such as cheddar or pepper jack, for a spicy kick.
